Abstrakt

Countless natural as well as synthetic compounds contained in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, nutraceuticals, pesticides, medical substances and other compositions are introduced to the market and the environment in various forms every day. This trend requires new effective tools to screen the genotoxicity. Given the vast number of synthetic substances and products generated by industry and research centers, with missing information on their genotoxicity, global attention of the scientific, industrial and regulatory institutions is focused to finding an efficient tool for HTS (High Throughput Screening) of their potentially toxic properties. The main purpose of this study was to compare, for selected substances, the application of the original form of the Ames test with its micro-plate modification and, using this comparison, to determine the genotoxic potential of the samples applying a newer microfluctuation method as a suitable tool for HTS.
