Metabolites of Endophytic Microorganisms as Bioactive Compounds

Abstrakt

Higher plants are hosts of one or more endophytic microorganisms. The relationship that they establish with the plant varies from symbiotic to parasitic. The microorganisms (mostly fungi and bacteria) live in the intercellular space of plant tissue. Some endophytes produce various useful bioactive products, which may be potentially used in medicine, agriculture, and industry. Novel antibiotics, antimycotics, immunosuppressants, and anticancer compounds given in this review are examples of bioactive compounds produced by these microorganisms.
