Abstrakt

The article deals with measurement of kinetics of adsorption and desorption of benzene on activated carbon filters made from (1) a non-woven polyester fabric hardened with water-acrylate dispersion containing activated carbon powder or (2) a fabric with a thin layer of activated carbon powder on its surface. Both filters are generally used in air-cleaning devices. Kinetic curves were measured under dynamic conditions on a filter (15 15 mm) in nitrogen. The experimental data showed that the studied parameters (adsorption rate, equilibrium amount, residual amount of benzene on the filter after desorption) depend on hydrodynamic conditions, operation conditions (temperature, pressure, gas flow-rate) and on the filter type. Sorption capacity as well as adsorption and desorption time depend also on the surface morphology and filter type. A significant influence of repeated desorption and adsorption on the studied parameters was shown only for the filter made from polyester fibres.
