Abstrakt

The aim of the paper is to characterize and discuss relationship between concept of sustainable development and competitiveness with regard to specifics of chemical industry. Primary data were collected using questionnaire survey in organizations of Association of Chemical Industry of the Czech Republic. The most significant factor of competitiveness is corporate reputation. Corporate reputation attracts prospective job applicants. Positive reputational impacts could decrease operational costs and positively influence productivity. Human resources and human capital significantly affect competitiveness of chemical industry. Competitive advantage can be generated by retention of qualified employees and by their development; highly important role plays quality management of knowledge employees. Respondents pointed as the most important external stakeholder government authorities, customers, local community, general public and suppliers and other business partners. Improvement of environmental and social performance in relation with mentioned stakeholders supports retaining, or increase corporate competitiveness.
