Abstract

A review on the P content in engine oils and its influence on the performance and durability of exhaust converters. Current views on the problems and further development in the field are monitored. The problems are currently regulated by limitation of the P content in engine oils. However, recent research and development show that the limitation of the P content can be misleading. A harmful influence of P in engine oils on catalytic systems can probably be controlled by volatility of P compounds and not by the P content.
