Abstract

Porous Si is a complex material with surprising physical and chemical properties as compared with crystalline Si. Properties of porous Si and its characterization methods used in the last two decades are reviewed. Surface fuctionalization substantially extends the application potential of porous Si; its applications in optoelectronics, chemosensors and medicine are presented.
