Abstract

Flavins contained in flavoenzymes are versatile oxidation and reduction agents. This fact inspired many researchers to test flavin derivatives as oxidation or reduction catalysts in organic synthesis. In this article, flavin-based catalytic and biocatalytic systems are reviewed. Relevant flavin properties are discussed in the context with their possible catalytic applications.
