Abstract

Over recent decades, polymer ? layered silicate nanocomposites have received much attention in both academia and industry. These new types of materials exhibit a dramatic improvement of properties when silicate is homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix, even at very low contents. This review highlights various aspects of preparation, characterization and properties of the materials. Special attention is paid to preparation of the nanocomposites by in situ polymerization and melt compounding.
