Abstract

The work deals with the undesirable influence of carbon dioxide on the determination of a characteristic temperature of the biomass ash. Our laboratory research proved that values of characteristic temperatures of the wood chip ash measured by standard prescribed process are often not correct. This is caused by the fact that measurement process requires heating of the ash which leads to a strong release of carbon dioxide which in effect influences negatively the measurement accuracy. We show that this negative effect is caused by the calcination of carbonates present in the ash during the heating of monitored bodies that is prescribed by the measurement procedures.
