Abstract

The advantages of using fuel ethanol are discussed. The physiology and metabolism of two main ethanol producers, Zymomonas mobilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, are compared. The review also includes description and comparison of different kinds of fermentation processes using these microorganisms.
