Abstract

Cytokinins, a group of N6-substituted adenine derivatives, are phytohormones that play an important role in plant growth and development. Plant tissue extracts are complex mixtures containing cytokinins in minute quantities. Therefore, sensitive and sufficiently selective analytical tools are required for determination and/or identification of cytokinins in plants. Main techniques (GC/MS, HPLC/MS) currently employed for qualitative and quantitative analyses of cytokinins as well as widely utilised extraction and purification procedures are discussed.
