Abstract

A mathematical model was constructed that enables a relatively reliable calculation of styrene amount trapped from atmosphere on active carbon using the value of styrene amount determined in a carbon disulfide eluate. The trapped amount of styrene ranges between 91 mg to 18 mg per g active carbon. The precise amount of CS2 (in ml) and active carbon (in g) has to be known. The calculated values seem to be independent both on the way of desorption (either stationary or dynamic) and quality (specific surface area) of active carbon types used. The model was verified with independently obtained data.
