Abstract

The review concerns the present state in the region of thermodynamic modelling of processes involved in the production and processing of materials. Basic experimental methods for obtaining the thermodynamic data mainly of solid substances are presented and estimation of the data is discussed. Commonly used procedures for expression of temperature and pressure dependencies of thermodynamic functions of pure substances and various thermodynamic models used for the description of solid solutions, melts, and aqueous solutions of electrolytes are also mentioned. Selected papers presenting the results of thermodynamic calculations for various systems important in metallurgy and material engineering are surveyed.
