Abstract

This review summarizes recent mass spectrometry approaches and the literature dedicated to their use in forensics, homeland security and toxicology. Various analytical combinations are evaluated and compared in terms of sample preparation, speed and analyte polarity. Miniaturization and mass spectrometry imaging applications have been defined as emerging trends in this important analytical field.
