Our National reference laboratory for chemical elements participated in a collaborative study in 2011. This study was conducted in accordance with international protocol to determine the performance characteristic of an analytical method for determination of inorganic arsenic in animal feed of marine origin. The method was based on solid phase extraction from organoarsenic compounds followed by detection with hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry. This article focuses on comparison of two different methods of inorganic As speciation: solid phase extraction followed by detection with hydride generation AAS (used in validation study) and HPLC followed by new modified method inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HPLC-ICP-MS). The method HPLC-ICP-MS was used and validated for determination of arsenobetaine, dimethylarsinic acid, monomethylarsonic acid and inorganic arsenic.
