Prostate Specific Antigen, Metallothionein and Caveolin-1 as Markers of Formation and Development of Prostate Carcinom
Keywords:
prostate cancer, metallothionein, prostate specific antigen, caveolin-1Abstract
The current diagnostic limitations of prostate cancer have shown that the development of new approaches to early detection of aggressive forms of of the cancer is very important. A comprehensive approach to detection of potential tumour markers using different methods and their optimization is described. We focused on caveolin-1 and metallothionein and the obtained results were compared with prostate specific antigen as a golden standard of prostate cancer markers. All the mentioned markers were detected on both the mRNA and protein levels in three types of prostate cell lines. Metallothionein and caveolin-1 rank among the promising markers in prostate cancer diagnosis, especially for distinguishing aggressive silent forms of the disease.
