Abstract

Experimental data are provided for the rate of attrition of lime particles in a batchwise fluidized-bed reactor at 850 °C. The influences of the operation time, gas velocity, and particle size were investigated. A simple empirical model is presented which describes the rate of attrition decaying exponentially with time. The attrition is viewed as a complex interplay of the hydrodynamic forces in the bed and mechanical strength of the bed material.
