Abstract

The review deals with the utilization of biomass via thermal gasification. Physico-chemical fundamentals of the process are illustrated, different types of gasification reactors and potentials of gas cleaning principles are described with regard to different gas applications. In the second part, transformation processes of the gas to electricity, heat or fuels are summarized. Attention is also paid to gas purity and requirements for gas  composition in different applications.
