Abstract

The review deals with the history and significance of chiral analysis of amino acids in physiological matrices, food and environment including the outer space since the 1930´s. The review discusses the importance of D-amino acids for formation and differentiation of cells or tissues, for biological and geological dating and the origin of life on Earth and diagnostical value of D-amino acids in food control and clinical biochemistry.
