Abstract

The knowledge of the formation of oxazolidine derivatives from ephedrine and an aromatic aldehyde and their back hydrolysis is reviewed. Their most significant potential utilization in pharmacy is based on their facile hydrolysis, which makes it possible to prepare pharmaceutical substances with retarded activity. This application depends on the configurational stability of the substance during condensation and hydrolysis.
